I have visited this camp a few times this winter so far and myself and a group of friends went there on Christmas Eve while giving out hotdogs and packs to the homeless.
We did and we shared stories on the cold rainy night. They are a really nice group of people ranging in age from early 20’s to mid 50’s at least.
They told us they need Jesus candles to warm their tents and i asked if they needed tarp.. due to the rain and they said that would really help. They would also not turn away eggs and bacon as the “Mayor”..Mr. CJ cooks up tasty meals for the camp as you can tell from that chicken soup picture.
I just found this blog about their camp…it is a really amazing story about them..read it .. as they want to be noticed as the goal for them is to get attention to get OFF the streets.
here is a really good video on them as well- http://www.wxyz.com/news/homeless-drawn-to-tent-city-community-in-downtown-detroit-seek-jobs-and-homes

Here is what Mayor Duggan told reporters, “At some point we will enforce the law. You can’t stay in a park after 10 p.m. You can’t have an open fire and you can’t pitch a tent. One way or another, we are going to get them to move.”
